Hospitality Vision
One of the commitments the community feels strongly about is hospitality, and using some space in the house for people in short-term transitions of different kinds. We have thought through this in different ways. The closing of some of Pennsylvania's immigration centers create complex issues for individuals and families. And, of course, there are always difficult situations. Dorothy Day wrote that every Christian community should have a Christ room.
For now, our own Christ room is a studio apartment on the second floor. The space has a kitchen, bathroom, and open area. This apartment was in good, if dated, condition and we have been lucky to not have a lot to redo. Within the week it should be ready, and we have connected with organizations who may be a source of referrals. It's been a long couple weeks of cleaning, painting, and scraping. After several coats of paint and intense cleaning, we're coming down to the final piece before having the efficiency ready for a person (or persons) in need to come and stay for a while.
