Vine And Fig Tree

The 4715 Pulaski property creates the possibility of several separate and living sites for households of differing sizes, from single persons to families. Each household would live independently, but would be part of a community that would share a larger piece of land and some common areas. We envision a community that would come out of our shared Christian faith. While we might be theologically diverse, we would be united in a sense of Christian discipleship, including a strong commitment to biblical economics and social justice. This could be expresses through some kind of regular times and rhythms for prayer. We would also see community members committing to live in the spirit of biblical koinonia, helping each other to grow spiritually, emotionally, and vocationally. One expression of our relationship might be a weekly common dinner. We also want a nice blend of single persons, couples, and families, to practice a model of extended family, or “village,” with intentional efforts at cross-generational relationships and support of children. We don’t necessarily see a community built around a strict common core mission, but rather one in which members would support each other in our respective ministries and vocations, which ideally are all somehow an expression of our faith and values. We are, however, drawn to a community which would make a room available for hospitality to persons in need or in transition. We are thinking of the community experience as an intentional expression of biblical economics, in which folks would all take responsibility to fulfill the various needs and requirements of cooperative management of the property. We would explore various expressions of covenantal economics and mutual aid. We would like the community to have a strong commitment to environmental stewardship – which could happen through the common care of a large garden, which could provide a significant amount of our food.We could see the community functioning as a gathering place for the broader community, whether it is friends, family, kindred spirits, neighbors, or others exploring similar paths of Christian discipleship. Such gatherings could take the form of meals, prayer, monthly celebrations, music parties, etc.
